Location: East Gwillimbury, Ontario, Canada 
 Full-Time; Salary $44.63 to $48.51 per hour
Reporting to the Program Manager, Traffic Safety, is responsible for undertaking road safety audits, analyzing data, preparing reports and making recommendations; investigating and responding to road safety inquiries; communicating with the general public and stakeholders; assisting with the implementation of new policies; and providing technical support to meet the Branch objectives.
  • Carries out road safety audits and identifies improvements to maximize the effectiveness, efficiency and safety for all road users on the Regional road network.
  • Assesses, analyzes and monitors traffic operations and flows along the Regional road network and recommends changes to optimize road safety.
  • Investigates road safety inquiries and develops recommendations in compliance with accepted traffic engineering principles and practices.
  • Reviews and ensures traffic management plans, construction staging schedules, pavement marking designs and signing designs are in accordance with Regional practices and procedures.
  • Monitors and reviews traffic regulations (e.g. bylaws and regulatory signs), advisory signing and pavement markings and recommends adjustments as necessary.
  • Assists the Manager with the implementation of new policies and guidelines and training of staff related to revisions in work procedures and practices.
  • Prepares and coordinates the preparation of background data to assist and defend insurance related civil liability claims.
  • Prepares specific and annual traffic data reports for other Departments, organizations and the general public in compliance with the Branch operating plan, the Region’s capital construction program, outside agencies and local Municipal projects.
  • Liaises with other adjacent transportation and enforcement agencies to ensure the uniformity of transportation operational policies and the collection and exchange of traffic related data.
  • Attends public and agency meetings to present information on results of the road safety program.
  • Responds to inquiries, resolves concerns and communicates directly with the general public, stakeholders etc., (verbal and written communication, as required).
  • Participates on committees and task forces, as assigned.
  • Successful completion of a three (3) year Community College Diploma Program in Transportation or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in traffic engineering environment and operations including technical analysis.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of traffic control devices, pavement marking standards and signs.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, traffic bylaws and policies.
  • Strong communication skills to prepare correspondence and reports on technical and non-technical issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and orally and navigate difficult situations with the general public and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical data and provide recommendations.
