Position: Senior Planner (Non-union, Permanent Full-time)  
Positions Available: One (1)

Wage Rate/Grade: $71,028 - $86, 619  
Hours of Work: 35 Hours/week  
 

Purpose of position and profile
 
Under the general direction and supervision of the Manager of Planning, the Senior Planner carries out and administers short-term and certain long-range planning functions, and associated projects for the Township, ensuring that compliance to Provincial Planning legislation, Regional planning policy and planning policy/regulations of Council, including the approved Official Plan, Secondary Plans, Zoning By-law etc., Design Guidelines and Site Plan standards, are respected.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Interpret Provincial, Regional and local planning policies, zoning bylaws
  • Process Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw amendment applications including circulating, reviewing and preparing planning reports
  • Prepare planning comments on minor variances and severances to the Committee of Adjustment and represent the department at the Committee of Adjustment meetings
  • Represent Planning Services at public meetings, Council meetings and area planning meetings
  • Prepare various development agreements
  • Comment on zoning matters and determine external agency requirements
  • Undertake certain policy and long-range planning projects including the co-ordination, reviewing, development and preparation of policies and recommendations
  • Process Subdivision applications including internal circulation; evaluating the application; preparing Township reports and conditions of draft approval; reviewing engineering and planning drawings/reports; preparation of the Sub divider’s agreement; and, administering the application to registration
  • Prepare/provide professional planning evidence to the LPAT on behalf of the Township
  • Prepare other agreements including easements, right-of-ways, encroachment, etc.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • A university degree in either Planning or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal land use planning
  • Thorough understanding of Provincial legislation
 
Required knowledge and skills
 
  • A knowledge of planning theory and practice as defined by the Canadian Institute of Planners and Administrative Law
  • A good knowledge of the Planning Act, other relevant Provincial legislation
  • Detailed knowledge and the ability to interpret and administer a variety of regulations, acts, agreements, policies and guidelines pertaining to planning practices
  • Analytical skills to define and resolve planning related problems
  • Negotiation skills for subdivision and site plan agreements
  • Communication skills to advise Council, staff, other agencies and the public on planning matters, respond to concerns and to present opinions to the LPAT
  • Writing skills to prepare notices, reports, bylaws, amendments, agreements, comments and written opinions and positions
  • Basic Computer literacy and familiarity with MSOffice
  • Basic knowledge of GIS
  • Current member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), or in process of achieving designation
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Ontario Drivers License with a minimum Class G and ability to travel as needed
