POSITION TITLE:   Transit Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY:   Direct the ‘on road’ Transit Operation and ensure time schedules and service are maintained.
DIVISION:   Transit Services
RESPONSIBLE TO:   Manager of Transit Operations
  Permanent, Casual and Probationary Bus Operators (91)
  1. Supervise the daily on road operations ensuring Bus Operators maintain schedules, routing, and courteous service.
  2. Supply written reports regarding operations and Bus Operators as requested by management.
  3. Participate in the selection of assigned staff; train assigned employees in their areas of work including methods, procedures and techniques of transportation operations; conduct employee evaluations; investigate, prepare, and conduct counseling, disciplinary actions as required.
  4. Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  5. Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established federal and provincial laws and regulations, and City policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
  6. Respond to and investigate complaints from the general public regarding transit, fixed-route and specialized transit operations; resolve problems on bus and via telephone in a timely and efficient manner.
  7. Assist in conducting random investigations of Transit Operator driving records; maintain accurate and complete driving record files for audits.
  8. Management representative on various assigned committees and working groups with regards to customer service, health and safety, transit operations, scheduling and provision.
  9. Operate Transit buses in an emergency situation.
  10. Coordinate the maintenance, repair and installation of bus route signs, fixtures, benches, and shelters at bus stops; maintain records of bus stop projects.
  11. Investigate and implement adjustments when accidents or detours affect routing.
  12. Assist in the selection and training of new Bus Operators.
  13. Provides direct front line supervision and is responsible for providing operational work assignments, guidance, discipline and performance evaluations for staff
  • Minimum College Diploma in Transportation Management or demonstrated progression in transportation field.
  • Valid Class ‘CZ’ license.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Management courses in supervisory an asset and preferable.
  • Three (3) years’ experience within designated field is preferred.
