The successful candidate will be responsible to the Mayor, this position provides direct executive support to the Mayor including providing political acuity and insight on current issues supporting the Office of the Mayor. Responsible for extensive senior level communication initiatives, actions, including regular liaison with members of Council to ensure parties are informed of emerging concerns in a constantly changing political landscape, priorities and issues. Develops and builds stakeholder relationships through communications with various levels of governments, agencies and the greater community, ensuring that issues are appropriately referred to the Mayor. Responsible for extensive communications activities including a strong social media presence, vets documents and communiques on behalf of the Mayor in cooperation with Corporate Communications, as applicable. Employs appropriate protocols to ensure effective public relations.
 
 
The Required Qualifications of this position include:
 
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Public Relations, Political Science or Communications and significant demonstrated senior level executive administration, communications or public relations experience within a public sector municipal environment or related field, or equivalent combination of experience, knowledge, and education.
  • Demonstrated responsible experience at a supervisory or executive level role. 
  • Project management skills to support a collaborative approach to projects and oversee the execution of events of the Office of the Mayor.
  • Progressive experience working for elected representatives, C-Suite executives or public sector senior executives at a senior level with demonstrated skills in public/government relations, networking skills, and a focus on extensive communications, social media presence and writing experience; ability to provide executive support and apply knowledge of protocols of an executive office.
  • Thorough working knowledge and demonstrated experience in executive administration skills.
  • Proficiency in operation of MS Office applications, spreadsheets, social media platforms, scheduling, and desktop publishing applications.
  • Extensive experience, presence and thorough understanding of work within the political landscape to build and maintain political contacts, networks to keep a pulse on critical emerging issues. Knowledge of local municipal perspective and municipal services.
  • Proven judgement and political acuity to handle complex and politically sensitive issues in a dynamic municipal environment, work in collaboration with Council and elected officials; analyze emerging issues, determine priorities, and provide recommendations, problem resolution, options, or identified opportunities.
  • Demonstrated relationship builder with a collaborative mindset, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and experience in a political environment with ability to foster and grow key political networks, inter-governmental relationships, including a broad variety of elected officials, mayors, and municipal/provincial agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with applied skills in problem solving and decision making within a political and highly confidential environment.
  • Excellent analytical, research, interpersonal, public/media relations, organizational, adaptability, multitasking, and public speaking skills.
 
Part of our exciting compensation package includes an annual salary of $86,851 - $108,563.
