POSITION:   Planning Technician
REPORTS TO:   Director of Planning
DEPARTMENT   Development Services, Planning Division
LOCATION:   Initial Placement – Paris Customer Service Office
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma in Urban Design, Urban Planning with an emphasis on GIS, Planning Technician or related field
  • Two years relevant work experience with minimum 1 year working with GIS and the development of cartographic and analytic products
  • Membership, or candidate membership, in Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT)
  • Experience working with relational database systems and spatial databases (i.e. ArcSDE, Oracle)
  • Working knowledge of zoning by-laws, municipal planning processes, planning principles and applicable legislation (including Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement and 2017 Places to Grow growth plan)
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret subdivision plans and surveys
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy skills and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential information
  • Proficient in Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written
  • Demonstrated safe work practices
  • Valid G driver’s license and provision to own vehicle
  • Experience working within a Planning Division in a municipal setting
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD Viewer, and City View software or similar electronic building permit processing software
  • Provide primary mapping and GIS duties to the Planning Division in the processing of Planning Act applications, inputting of subdivision and MPAC information, municipal numbering, Official Plan and Zoning mapping, and front counter inquiries
  • Maintains mapping in the County’s GIS enterprise geodatabase with respect to changes in property fabric from a planning perspective (based on subdivisions, severances, lot additions or similar property fabric)
  • Liaises with staff to provide support to ensure County mapping needs are met; provides advice on standards, models and applications
  • Prepares mapping required for Planning Act applications when required
  • Administers the County’s street addressing system to enable the County’s 911 system
  • Assist in the processing of minor development applications, including rezoning, part lot control, and site plan and condominium approvals
  • Prepares reports and correspondence to management for committees and makes presentations to clients and stakeholders as requested
  • Complete special projects and conduct research in support of Planning Advisory Committee, Council and members of the Planning Division
  • Other duties as assigned
Annual Salary Range - $59,550 - $69,670 (Job Grade 5)              35 hours per week
