Applications are invited for the position of Electrician within the City of North Bay’s Roads and Traffic Department.  Under the direction of the Roads and Traffic Supervisor, the Electrician is to carry out electrical repairs and improvements at various City facilities, including traffic signals, water and waste water facilities, lift stations and Public Works buildings.  The successful incumbent will be responsible for the efficient use and control of materials and equipment; and ensuring the work is performed according to safety Policies and Procedures as well as Provincial Regulations and Electrical Codes.  The Electrician plans the work and is responsible for acquiring materials to carry out the work.
Selection Criteria:
  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent acceptable experience.
  • Journeyman’s License as a Construction and Maintenance 309A Electrician with two (2) years’ work experience.
  • Master Electrician Certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial electrical systems including power supply, transformers, controllers, switches, pumps and fixtures, PLC’s and motor control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of traffic controllers and related equipment.
  • Capability to read blueprints and schematics for electrical supply and related equipment.
  • Training in confined space entry.
  • Training in fall arrest.
  • Valid First Aid and C.P.R. 
  • Hold a valid Ontario Class “DZ” Driver’s License.
  • Capable of operating a boom-type, bucket truck.
  • Sufficient clerical ability to complete necessary reports and materials requisitions and daily activities diaries.
  • Considered as assets: PLC training, OIT’s and Solar Controls
