Scope of Position:
 
To undertake a variety of functions for the Financial Services Division, including creating journal entries, gathering back up, verifying proper general ledger account codes and cost accounting job codes. Additionally, the incumbent will set up capital account codes, enter data into FMW, maintain FMW workflows as well as creating and maintaining various corporate documents and providing assistance to the Revenue and Tax Services Department as required.
 
To assist in the annual preparation of the County’s Financial Statements and Financial Information Return.

Position Description:
 
  • Create journal entries using corporate standard formatting.
  • Gather appropriate journal entry back up based on information provided. This will require familiarity with files in each department of Financial Services.
  • Verify that correct GL codes are being used and appropriate/active cost account job codes are being used.
  • Assist with weekly cheque runs and other accounts payable functions as needed, including data input, EFT payment creation, and filing.
  • Assist in year-end accounting and auditors working papers
  • Assist in developing, compiling and printing corporate financial planning documents.
  • Data input budget information in FMW and update/create FMW workflow approvals.
  • Assist in creating, maintaining and updating corporate files by printing and filing financial documents as required.
  • Set up capital general ledger account codes as required.
  • Complete subsidies, grants and reporting requirements for Norfolk County as required.
  • Assist in processing approved budget amendments.
  • Assist in reviewing and monitoring cash receipts journals for accuracy in preparation for the bank reconciliation process as required.
  • Assist in preparing adjusting entries related to revenue and cash receipts as required.
  • Assist in preparing, balancing and posting deposits as required.
  • Provide general accounting services related to the collection, processing and documentation of property taxes as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Knowledge & Experience:
 
  • Post-secondary education in business administration/accounting studies.
  • Degree in business administration, accounting, commerce or related discipline would be considered an asset
  • Over two years, up to three years’ experience to be familiar with the scope of the position, preferably in a municipal setting
 
Skills & Abilities:
 
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office), including Excel at an advanced level and department specific software.
  • General knowledge of and experience with ERP or financial systems preferably Aptean municipal sector systems and FMW
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and understanding of municipal operations
  • Ability to work under pressure with constant interruptions, changing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
