The Municipality of Clarington is a beautiful community that forms the eastern boundary of the Greater Toronto Area. Clarington is one of eight municipalities located in Durham Region. With a population approaching 95,000 people and growing, Clarington offers residents a blend of city living and rural charm.
We are a large Municipality covering an area of approximately 612 square kilometres. There are four major urban centres (including Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle and Orono) and thirteen hamlets. Our residents enjoy waterfront trails alongside Lake Ontario, Greenbelt protected farmlands and the natural beauty of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
The Municipality of Clarington is home to three of Canada’s 100 largest infrastructure projects. It is the host community of OPG - Darlington Nuclear, will soon have two 400 series highways and is looking forward to two GO Train stations by 2023/24.

The Role
The Municipality is looking for a progressive, dedicated individual to fill the responsibility of Deputy Treasurer. The Deputy Treasurer reports directly to the Director of Finance/Treasurer and acts as back up to the Treasurer for Council liaison and meetings. The Finance Department at Clarington has a total of 23 staff and is responsible for such things as insurance and risk management, investments and banking, financial studies and long-term financial planning, accounting, property tax billing and collections, budgets, financial reporting, performance measures, internal audit and asset management.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a view to long term planning to assist in guiding a high growth municipality to further evolve its accounting and financial policies and practices to meet the changing needs of municipal finance.
Candidates will have CPA designation underpinned by a degree in business/finance/accounting. Candidates will have proven ability to engage and sustain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong business acumen, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach are defining characteristics of the ideal candidate. The Finance Department is a strong team-based work environment.
The successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, a satisfactory criminal reference check, from a Canadian Police Information Centre. Applicants who have been employed with the Municipality within the last year and have provided a CPIC within the last 365 days are exempt.
Salary Scale: Grade 10 Non-affiliated $108,828 – $132,281, and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
