THE CORPORATION OF THE COUNTY OF BRANT
 
POSITION:   Zoning Technician (NEW)
REPORTS TO:   Director of Planning
DEPARTMENT   Development Services, Planning Division
LOCATION:   Initial Placement – Paris Customer Service Office
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Planning Technician or related field
  • Two years relevant work experience
  • Membership, or candidate membership, in Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT)
  • Working knowledge of zoning by-laws, municipal planning processes, planning principles and applicable legislation (including Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement and 2017 Places to Grow growth plan)
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret subdivision plans and surveys
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy skills and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential information
  • Proficient in Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written
  • Demonstrated safe work practices
  • Valid G driver’s license and provision to own vehicle
 
Assets:
  • Experience working within a Planning Division in a municipal setting
  • Experience utilizing GIS, AutoCAD Viewer, and City View software
 
Duties:
  • Assist in the processing of minor development applications, including rezoning, part lot control, and site plan and condominium approvals
  • Respond to external inquiries related to zoning, building permit eligibility, heritage matters, planning applications, and Official Plan inquiries
  • Provide support and back-up to the Zoning Administrator with zoning by-laws, and review and issuance of applications for building permits
  • Present to Committees and Council as required
  • Support City View entries and opening of applications
  • Prepare Zoning Compliance Certificates
  • Conduct research in support of Planning Advisory Committee, Council and members of the Planning Division
  • Complete special projects relating to planning as requested
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Annual Salary Range - $59,550 - $69,670 (Job Grade 5 - under review)              35 hours per week
