Chief Building Official/By-law Enforcement Officer

The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio is located along the northern edge of the GTA in Simcoe County. With a population of 11,000 residents, the Township is predominantly rural in character, interspersed with seven settlement areas.
We are seeking applications from experienced, qualified persons for the position of a Chief Building Official/By-law Enforcement as an incumbent of the Senior Management Team. The Chief Building Official is responsible for the administration, planning and management of the Building/By-law Enforcement Services, Canine control and Source Water Protection. Superior ability to provide leadership, guidance and budgetary control of the department.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: plans review, process building/septic permit applications, perform on-site inspections of all construction, development and demolition activities to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws and the Ontario Building Code, responding to related inquiries. Ensure Municipal compliance of Source Water Protection, Municipal By-laws, property standards and zoning.
The successful candidate will have a Certified Building Code Official (CBCO) designation or equivalent. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in building and septic inspections and by-law enforcement in a municipal environment. Have the ability to communicate and interact with the public and trades in a professional manner. This person will have knowledge of zoning and planning matters, as well as a thorough understanding of provincial legislation, regulations and policies as they affect buildings, property, and municipal by-laws and Clean Water Act. The candidate should have certification of RMO and RMI for Source Water Protection as per the Clean Water Act.
Have the ability to work outdoors in construction settings and possess a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.
This position is based on a 35 hour work week Monday to Friday. Available to attend evening and/or weekend meetings as required.
2017 Salary range of $39.97 to $49.96/per hour plus a competitive benefit package.
